Changes to Stroke Allowances in League Matches and Avon Challenge

January 11th, 2016

As many league players will be aware, CONGU has changed the stroke allowances in the fourball betterball format to 90 %, both for matchplay and strokeplay competitions. This change is effective for competitions beginning after January 1st, 2016.

Having sought clarification from both England Golf and the Warwickshire Golf Union (who cover most of our clubs), the Avon League will adopt these new rules. This means that the stroke allowance in the league matches will be 90 % of the difference to the lowest handicap in the fourball. In the end-of-season Avon Challenge each player will now receive 90 % of their handicap. The Avon Trophy is played under the greensomes format and is therefore unaffected by the changes.

The League and Challenge rules will be updated in the near future and circulated to all Team Captains.
